    July 3, 2018

We just came back from the border. Some of us managed to get very close to the fence and saw the demonstration on the other side. We spoke via cellphone with few people in Gaza and they told us that there are 20,000-30,000 women demonstrators, which is great. The army shot tear gas and it was very stuffy.

We'll try to send pictures and videos later on.

Members of Other Voice  will today ( Tuesday, July 3 ) hold a support rally for the women's march in Gaza

Today,  at 17:00, there will be a non-violent march of some 20,000 women in Gaza demanding the end of the siege and the right to a dignified life. The march is organized by the leaders of the nonviolent struggle in Gaza. Women from all over the Palestinian political spectrum will march from the Saja'iya neighborhood towards the border - near Kibbutz Nahal Oz.

They asked us to march with them as a sign of solidarity on the other side of the fence ... It is important for them to see  that there is someone in Israel to talk to.

In response to the request of the  Gaza organizers, Tuesday, 3 July, at 17:30, we will gather at the entrance  Kibbutz Nahal Oz and march with large signs, expressing a message of peace, towards the border, in the hope that both processions will succeed in seeing each other across the fences and barriers.

March 30, 2018 : Every morning, on deck, we scan the horizons, wondering what we'll find, what storms, cyclones, icebergs, eruptions, or safe havens, human harbours, welcoming islands. Some of us have grown so weary-wary over the years that they can't stand external bad news of any kind anymore. To them we say that this is their home too, for there are two ways you can go by at least, as far as world news are concerned.

One is the Hot Stream, from volcanoes in crisis, with their underground flows of lava, and columns of fumes rising (the main one in the Mediterranean zone being the Azza Volcano : the Gaza Volcano, to which we devote continuous time and space). You don't have to choose this though. ***

The other way is what we call the Cool Stream - when everything else seems to be burning around, and threatening, be aware that there are men and women, everywhere, quietly struggling for common sense, beauty and harmony. You will find them in the HOPE section of this site, and this is what our presence is all about, as peace messengers, witnesses to daily, matter-of-fact survival and coexistence.

A look into the past - where we come from... January 1, 2017 :

The 21st century was off to a bad start. Blood spilled on Temple Mount, the Esplanade of Mosques, in Jerusalem, by the end of September 2000. What is known as the Second Intifada. A thousand Israelis, and more than 3,000 Palestinians were killed in 5 years. There was wave after wave of suicide attacks, even booby-trapped cars in Israel from November 2000 till April 2006, countless military reprisals on the Palestinian territory. September 11, 2001 : New-York and Washington attacked by Al-Qaida : 3,000 killed, 6,000 wounded in a few minutes. The "dirty little war" of Israel-Palestine was progressively swept out by the war in Afghanistan (close to 90,000 killed from 2001 to 2014), the invasion and occupation of Iraq by the U.S. (2003-2013) which left around 200,000 killed in its wake, and the civil war in Syria...

"Welcome to the Third Millenium on Earth..."

In its turn, Europe was hit. With the disastrous intervention in Libya in 2011, led by the French and the British, followed by further operations in Sahel and in the Middle-East (Libya : 60,000 killed in a few months) and the repercussions from Mali and Syria to Toulouse, Paris, Brussels, Berlin...

Under the avalanche we learnt to think, breathe, react differently. The risk was to suffocate, get intoxicated, brainwashed, one way or the other, after so much desperation brought by the world news, distilled day and night in incendiary media. Not to dare use our understanding without external direction, without guidance.

The opening came in the summer of 2014, in the midst of the war in Gaza. A friend in Strasbourg (could be you or him or her...) had found an article published in a small magazine. Its title opened a breech into the wall that was beginning to surround us. "I want to fight against hatred" said the voice, in the name of Other Voice : a movement of men and women in Israel, who refused the collective reflex of fear and giving up thinking by oneself.

The state of war makes people deaf and bitter. Yield to it ? Why not then renounce the Goldberg Variations, the songs of Neil Young, Nana Mouskouri, Yusuf Islam, Nina Simone, and all the mind-blowing unknown musicians of Playing for Change ?

One voice is enough in the din, one dim light in the heart of darkness, one small choir... SInce 2008, we have been waging our Open the Doors Campaign, to end the siege of two million human beings in Gaza, and the deafening "dialogue" of attacks and counter-attacks. One voice is enough in this din, a few echoes through the storm...

MARCH 30, 2018 : 15 KILLED, DOZENS WOUNDED... THE GAZA VOLCANO IS ERUPTING....

" and how many times can a man turn his head

and pretend that he just doesn't see? "

    Welcome
In this site, you have access to different sources related to the East - West coexistence.

Our main alert concerns the siege of Gaza (by Egypt and Israel) - Gaza where two million people are shivering behind high walls, with only 3 hours of electricity a day and 95% of water unfit to drink. Hence our Open the Doors Campaign : the way to peace between Israelis and Palestinians goes through Jerusalem and Gaza.

We get our information on the field, and in all the media available, regardless of their stands. Facts alone matter to us, over opinions.

Every day we go fishing for them. There are two ways to go about it, for us, for you : the way of raw, violent, dangerous situations, that we have to assess before it is too late (Media - Must Read). And the other one, the narrow way, of HOPE, fostered by all the men and women who are now silently busy building the peace of today and of tomorrow. Peace Lines : Hope Lines.

    Welcome

Our reason for existence is to contribute to the return of peace in war zones and the reinforcement of coexistence in fragile zones - non-violent approach is our choice, our method for conflict resolution. Since October 2000 we have been working in Israel-Palestine, at the hinge of civilizations, with the tools developed during our missions in Bosnia (1993-1996) and in Algeria (1997-1998) :

    - programmes of education in non-violent alternatives and constructive coexistence,

    - campaigns with Nobel laureates worldwide and Members of the European Parliament calling for cease-fire & negotiations for a just and lasting peace.

The most dynamic part of this site is in the "Media - Must Read" section where you will find a daily selection of the most precise articles, from all sources, upon the situation in Israel - Palestine. The most meaningful part to us is the "HOPE Other Voices Rising" section though, that we started on November 1, 2015.

     Welcome

As of March 25, 2018, more than 40,000 visitors have been recorded, for over 115,000 pages, since we inaugurated this site four years ago in January 2014. On August 28 & 29, 2014, because of the war in Gaza, we had 115 visitors, for 240 pages the first day, 227 the second. We certainly don't wish for such records anymore.

Now, on January 21, 2016, for no particular reason, we did record the highest number of visitors : 69, who read 320 pages that day. In 2017 new heights were reached : 44 visitors for 417 pages on May 8, and 42 for 457 pages on September 11.

Then, in February 2018, on the 6th 53 visitors were registered for 544 pages, and 48 on the 19th for 491 pages.

On March 5, 2018, as early as 10 a.m. (European time) 30 visitors had been recorded, for 400 pages.

In the summer of 2015 about 20 people visited us each day. In January 2016, this average daily number rose, closer to 30. In the month of February 2018, 45 visitors were recorded for 170 pages daily. A likely reflection of our work on the HOPE section, that was started on November 1, 2015. This is where we are going : gathering all the news and echoes from people, most of them unknown hitherto, who silently and relentlessly work for  coexistence and common sense, be they Israelis, Palestinians, Europeans, or others. LET IT SPREAD !

As a result of this new investigative spirit, a first donation has been received. Welcome, friends, sympathizers, from all across this world ! Like any other unsubsidized organization, we need human support to proceed.  We need your feedback and transmission. It is vital for us to see that the existence of this site matters to you.

Any donation is meaningful. It does not have to be "big". Just a sign that you are there, and that you care. With gratitude for your renewed interest.  peacelines@gmail.com
